The assessment center is a technique used for skills assessment and for detecting potential using role-play situations. At Apostrof, we often use this technique for assessing candidates.
In the article Behind the scenesof an Apostrof Assessment Center we looked at the key points of this type of assessment. But it’s always good to have feedback from candidates on their experience of the exercise, what they thought of the assessment center and what they learnt. This time, Franck Erouart, Arras Warehouse Manager for TNT Express France talks about his experience.
Initial feelings
“Knowing I was going to be put through an assessment center made me really stressed to start with. Later, I started to appreciate the value of this kind of test for knowing more about my managerial practices. It represents an ideal opportunity to take stock.”
Feedback on the exercises
“When I arrived at Apostrof’s offices, I was given a very warm welcome. The team took the time to explain to me what would happen over the course of the day. The exercises and tests I did were quite intense. They were workplace situations in areas that I’m not completely familiar with so I was immediately forced out of my comfort zone.”
The analysis and debriefing sessions
“Debriefings after each exercise meant that we immediately found out what our strengths were but also what could be improved. The written summary produced at the end of the assessment center was a good reflection of my experience there and of my character and managerial style.”
Afterword
“I’m really grateful to TNT and the Apostrof team for giving me the opportunity to go through this type of managerial process. It will enable me to progress by using my good qualities to mitigate the impact of the areas I need to work on.”
What is an assessment center?
It’s a method for assessing aptitude and performance. The assessment centre focuses on a set of varied exercises, which are designed to simulate different aspects of the work environment (E.g. group exercise, in-tray, role-play, presentation or fact-finding task, etc.).
