How can we communicate better?


Investment in communication has never been so important, whether in terms of the time spent talking to one another within a department or company, or in terms of new communication tools and training budgets. There is a whole range of tools for creating connections between different people internally and/or externally: corporate conferences and conventions, team-building initiatives, etc.

Unfortunately, they don’t automatically improve the quality of those connectionsWe learn how to communicate throughout our professional lives. And yet we often feel inadequate when it comes to dealing with certain people and/or behaviours that we don’t understand. It’s as if the modus operandi of some of our colleagues is completely alien to us.

How self-awarness leads to effective communication?


Most of the time we use certain language and a certain way of expressing ourselves that we feel comfortable with. Mostly, we’re not aware of having our own style of communication. Nor do we imagine that our style of communication is related to our personality, our motivations, etc. We tend to use the ‘key’ to our own attention to open the door to the attention of others we speak to. Like us, the people we speak to also have their own style of communication dictated by their personality and experiences.

So, what if good communication requires good self-knowledgeBefore we are able to listen deeply to others, we need to learn how to listen deeply to ourselves. The art of listening begins with the ability to listen to oneself. It is this self-awareness that helps us to understand the other’s frame of reference. It is also easier to practice a listening that is free of assumptions and judgments.

We strongly believe that listening to others and observing someone else’s attitudes are the most difficult skills to master. So, it requires serious work and training. However, do not forget that a healthy communication contributes in a fundamental way to our wellbeing and to the quality of our relations.
