Looking back at your assessment day how would you describe your experience with Apostrof?
If I have to sum it up in a few words, I would say that it’s a completely unique experience! The day is intensive, really interesting and very comprehensive. A sequence of exercises is run throughout the day. They require a high degree of adaptability.
What did you think of the differentused?
The team is great at explaining the exercise to us and putting us at ease. But I was really focused and felt the pressure throughout! The debriefings after each exercise mean you really become aware of your behaviour when you’re in the situations. The caring attitude of the staff running the day means that you really want to take on board what they say in the next exercise.
What did you think of the feedback session at the end of the day? What did you take away from it?
It really makes you aware of yourself and of things that you’re not necessarily aware of in everyday life. It’s enriching personally as well as professionally. In my case the assessment center looked at my management techniques but also taught me more about myself, made me understand better how I am and how I act. The day also revealed a few points I need to watch. Whatever feedback the assessment team gave, whether it was positive or negative, it was always relevant!
How well did you get on with the Apostrof team? It’s not always easy having someone watching and analysing you!
I’m grateful for the assessors’ skill and professionalism. They were excellent at their job and at managing the situation. It was pleasant to chat with them throughout the day, they’re a really nice team, very friendly and particularly caring.
How will you remember the assessment day?
Very positively! Taking part in an assessment center is a unique experience! With the role-play situations, you’re being judged on what matters. The assessors don’t start out with any preconceived ideas or judgements because they don’t know anything about my past experiences, career or training.
Based on my experience, I also used the assessment center process to assess potential candidates for the post of Centre Manager a few months later. The feedback on the candidates was very comprehensive. In a way, it also put them on an equal footing. Because of this I think that the assessment center can be very useful for recruitment because it’s not always obvious who to choose from just a CV or an interview.”
What is an assessment center?
Assessment Center refers to a process that is being increasingly used by organisations to assess staff, either as part of the recruitment process or for internal development and promotion. The ‘Aptitude Diagnostic processes’ referred to in this definition are the exercises and tests that you will undertake during your assessment centre.
